What if we pause for a few seconds in our daily interactions with others? What if we wait before we speak and stop worrying about wasting people’s time? This could be an effective for people suffering from social anxiety. Since social interactions overwhelm people with social anxiety, they can pause to reflect and calm their nerves. Pausing before speaking can make them feel as if they are in control. Waiting for a few seconds can help them in rehearsing before speaking, which can reduce the possibility of messing things up (people with social anxiety obsessively worry about saying something wrong).
