What is the difference between anger and verbal abuse?

Verbal abuse is an attack on the person’s character (“you are worthless”). Genuine anger is mostly about specific actions (“your words hurt me”).Verbal abuse has patterns…it is designed to attack a person’s self esteem. A verbally abusive person always directs his/her anger towards people who he/she thinks is weak. A man who ‘controls’ his anger around his boss but lashes out at his wife is verbally abusive. A woman who ‘controls’ her anger towards her husband but shouts at her servant is verbally abusive ( If you can control your anger around certain people then you obviously know how to manage your anger).
